WHAT IS DAYS FOR GIRLS (DFG)?
It’s hard to imagine days without school, days without income and days without leaving your room all due to a lack of adequate feminine hygiene. Girls can miss up to three months of school a year without it, some are so desperate to stay in school that they use bark, leaves, trash, cardboard, husks (whatever they can find). Left unaddressed, the issue compounds, resulting in disease, infection, poverty, early marriage, exploitation, increased school drop-out rates, and even child trafficking. A simple solution, give Days back to girls. Days that can change their lives.

‘Days for Girls’ works to help girls stay in school and retain dignity by providing them with feminine hygiene, while also empowering them through sanitation and health training. All this happens through providing specially designed reusable feminine hygiene kits.

NORTH BELCONNEN BAPTIST CHURCH AND DAYS FOR GIRLS
We have a group of passionate women, who have rallied together to support this cause. We’ve already raised over $2,000 to purchase materials to makes kits and in July 2014 we held our first sewing bee, making kits to be sent to Papua New Guinea and Timor Leste. Days for Girls has created a wonderful way for women in our community of all ages and stages, to get to know one another whilst supporting such a worthwhile and practical cause.

HOW CAN I BE INVOLVED Requests for kits have started rolling in from all over the place, to keep up with the demand, we hold a number of sewing & packing days throughout the year. Can’t Sew? You don’t have to sew to be involved, if you can cut, iron, fold or make tea; we’ll have a job for you.

If you would like to be involved or have any questions you can contact the church via our contact page or you can email canberracity@daysforgirls.org
